Winter is coming. This means dry, itchy skin for many people. People with eczema may also experience flare-ups this season. So, it’s time to begin a winter regimen of skin care to prevent these issues and keep your skin healthy.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Moisture is key. After you wash, apply moisturizer. It is better to do so immediately after you have bathed, or showered when your skin is still moist. This helps lock in the excess moisture. Most moisturizers can also be reapplied throughout the day as needed.

Keep Up the SPF

Just because you’re wearing layers does not mean you’re skin isn’t at risk for sun damage. Continue your habit of applying sun protection with SPF.

Try a Humidifier

Get some extra moisture in the air. A humidifier can help with dry skin and those stuffy sinuses we sometimes experience in the winter. They can be affordable, and well worth the investment.

Stay Warm

Put those socks and gloves on, even indoors, if necessary. The more covered and warm you are—without going too far, of course—the more moist your skin will stay if you have applied moisturizer. However, warmth through central heat, space heaters, hot showers, and fire can leach moisture from the skin and leave you more dry.
