You probably know that those dark circles under your eyes are more prominent when you’re exhausted, but this is not the only cause. Genetics and allergies are significant factors as well. So, what causes those dark circles?
Why They Appear
The layer of skin beneath your eyes is thin and reveals blood vessels more clearly than any other area of your body. Most of the skin on your body is approximately 2mm thick, while the skin around your eyes is only .5mm thick. Ultimately, those dark circles that look like bruises are merely light reflecting off of the blood vessels under your thin skin. It is similar to why eyes reveal bruises so easily; the skin shows burst blood vessels more clearly.
As you mature, you may notice that those dark circles happen more often. That’s because, as we age, skin loses elasticity and is less able to regenerate, which means thinner skin. In addition, certain people are genetically predisposed to thin skin below the eyes. There are a number of things that can make dark circles under the eyes worse, like accidental damage of the blood vessels beneath the eyes. The appearance of dark circles can be improved with filler, such as Restylane.
The Restylane Solution
Restylane is a solution that may be injected into the skin below the eyes. It is comprised of a hyaluronic acid that plumps the tissue. It works by naturally binding to water molecules in the body, so it is very safe. Though the results aren’t permanent, they do last for six months or more, and they can be very effective at addressing those dark circles. They lift the saggy appearance of the “bags” under your eyes and may take years off your eyes.
